Jakarta Intercultural School (JIS) operates on three garden‑like campuses in South Jakarta and serves more than 2,500 students from over 70 nationalities. The Student Support Team is a multidisciplinary group that meets regularly to develop strategies to assist students experiencing academic, social or emotional challenges, to collaborate with teachers and parents on these strategies, and to initiate interventions that address areas of concern. Members include classroom teachers, learning support specialists, EAL specialists, counselors, a school psychologist, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, and school principals or vice principals.
JIS enrolls a limited number of students requiring learning support. The Learning Support Program provides support for students with identified learning needs, with a continuum of services and individualized plans developed in collaboration with counselors, families and staff. The JIS Learning Center offers inclusive education for students with moderate-to-significant learning needs and global developmental delays.
The English as an Additional Language (EAL) program supports students whose first language is not English and who have not yet achieved proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and listening. EAL teachers provide materials, design programs, co-teach, and model classroom strategies to support students within their mainstream classes.
Counseling, therapeutic, and psychological services are provided; school counselors, therapists, and psychologists work with students, parents and teachers to support learning and personal growth. A School Therapist is available at the Cilandak Campus, with services including intervention and individual therapeutic support, as well as parent and teacher education on relevant topics.
The Child Safeguarding Policy protects students and seeks to provide a safe environment; JIS endorses the Convention on the Rights of the Child and distributes the policy annually to all parents and applicants. All faculty and staff are mandated to report concerns and follow standard procedures; cases may be reported to employers, consulates, child protection agencies, and local authorities as appropriate.
1. Exploration: Begin your admissions journey by scheduling an in-person or virtual tour of the JIS campus with the Admissions Team. The tour provides a firsthand view of the school's community, facilities, and innovative programs. This exploration helps families understand how JIS supports student learning and growth. A meeting with the Admissions Team can be arranged during this visit.
2. Application: Complete the application process and submit the required documents through Open Apply. Documents typically include academic records, letters of recommendation, and other forms requested by JIS. The Open Apply platform centralizes submission and tracking of materials. Additional information may be requested as part of the review.
3. Assessment: Assessments vary by grade level and evaluate your child's academic abilities and English proficiency. The process gives the school an opportunity to get to know the applicant. Assessments can be conducted in-person or virtually, depending on grade and circumstances. The Admissions Team uses the results alongside other information to inform the decision.
4. Decision: The Admissions Committee reviews all aspects of the application to make a determination. The decision is communicated to families via email or phone by a member of the Admissions Team. Notifications will reflect the applicant's fit with the program and available seats. Families may follow up with the Admissions Team if needed.
The JIS Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (BTI) Scholarship provides full tuition for Indonesian students. It is open to Grades 8-9 students who reside with a parent or legal guardian and are enrolled in state schools across the DKI Jakarta area. Scholarships are fully funded and cover 100 percent of school fees from entry until graduation (Grade 12). The BTI program is highly competitive; the Scholarship Board will select up to three scholarship recipients annually; the decision is final and not subject to appeal.
Eligibility: The BTI Scholarship is intended for Grade 8-9 students with outstanding achievement and potential in academics, the arts, athletics, and service to their community. Indonesian scholarship candidates must meet standard JIS admissions requirements and pass the requirements of the Scholarship Selection Board. The selections process includes admission tests, an essay, student interviews, and a meeting with the applicant's parents.
Minimum English proficiency is required; scholars must be able to study in English. We do not currently offer boarding. A mushalla is on campus and students may participate in Friday prayers and daily prayers. JIS is accredited by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and follows MOE curriculum requirements; a JIS High School graduate can pursue universities in Indonesia and abroad.
