Academics

Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio teaches Bespoke Curriculum for students aged 1 to 18.

Curriculum

The Institutional Educational Project is the document that contains the principles guiding educational objectives and supporting the personal and social development of students, initiating the development of the profile of individuals capable of functioning in a globalized society, respecting diversity, and being fully aware of themselves and their surroundings. This instrument indicates who will carry it out, how they should be organized to fulfill the mission, and the elements necessary to achieve effective educational management, which must occur in an environment of internal coexistence and participation by all members of the School Community. In a world of constant change and scientific and technological advances that require adaptation to an increasingly complex society, and in the context of the new phase our Institution is undergoing, we have drawn up a Work Plan that will allow us to reach the objectives necessary to “educate citizens of the world.” The first objective is the updating of our Institutional Educational Project, which will be the backbone of all others. In updating the Project, all parts of our School Community participated: counselors, administrators, teachers, non-teaching staff, parents/guardians, and students, forming working groups, technical meetings, formal consultations, and conversations. As a way to align the educational interests of the community with the orientations and new social demands, we will periodically review and update the contents of this instrument, incorporating aspects that substantively contribute to improving the quality of the education we provide. We invite the whole Community to actively participate in this Project, transmitting it in the actions and educational tasks we undertake, making it a constant reference to guide pedagogical practices and student formation. Sincerely, Patricia Ferralis, Consiglio Direttivo (2016). Download the Project (PDF) and View the Project Online.

Higher Education Progression

The school maintains formal admissions pathways to Chilean universities via special admission with partner universities for students who have completed the Final State Exam (ECS). Partner universities include Universidad del Desarrollo, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Universidad Diego Portales, Universidad de Los Andes, Universidad Gabriela Mistral, and others; some information is currently being updated. The partnerships also include Universidad Finis Terrae, Universidad Mayor, Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, and Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, among others, with specific entry requirements for each institution. These pathways enable graduates to pursue higher education through the respective universities.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school participates in the Plan Islandia initiative in Las Condes to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors in children and adolescents. In 2023, the school began implementing the Preventive Seal strategy and is one of twelve pioneer establishments to receive the certification. The plan rests on four pillars: family, school, peer group, and leisure time. Every two years, the school administers the Youth and Wellbeing survey to measure substance use and identify risk and protective factors across family, school, and community. The results are analyzed by a working group including representatives from CASI, CDG, teachers, the Convivencia Escolar team, and the Leadership Team. Protective factors have improved, including reductions in alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and vaping; higher self-esteem; stronger trust between students and teachers; and better perceived physical and emotional wellbeing; while there are some risk indicators such as increased non-prescribed tranquilizer use and greater emotional distance with parental figures. In response, actions strengthen family-student bonds and include curriculum time to address non-prescribed medications; families are invited to discuss emotions at home; two preventive talks are planned.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

English language instruction exists at Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio. An English field trip to Cerro San Cristóbal combined English and science learning, where students from the advanced English class acted as guides and teachers to younger peers; they prepared activities that highlighted natural resources and applied knowledge from science and English, strengthening collaboration and mutual respect within the school community.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is monitored within the Plan Islandia framework through the Youth and Wellbeing survey applied every two years, informing actions to promote students' physical and emotional wellbeing. The school notes improvements in wellbeing and self-esteem, with stronger trust between students and staff and a reduction in suicidal-ideation indicators. The school has organized talks in collaboration with the Preventive Network of Schools to support families in guiding their children on mental health and wellbeing.

Safeguarding

The Internal School Regulation includes safeguarding protocols addressing rights violations, sexual aggression and acts of sexual connotation, drugs and alcohol, health incidents at school, mental health, and gender identity recognition. Protocols specify procedures for first reporting, keeping information confidential, and coordinating with external services when necessary. The protocols are published for the school community and the Encargado de Convivencia Escolar coordinates their socialization by cycle and stament.

Admissions

Admissions

Admission The Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio integrates Chilean and Italian culture and must meet the requirements of both curricula. In the articulation of these curricula, the Scuola should ensure that students feel welcomed in their learning and development process, in order to ensure they can develop all their potential and promote wellbeing throughout their educational trajectory. Because of the nature of the institution, there are priority criteria when determining admission: families who are already members of the school (i.e., siblings of students), followed by children of alumni, then students from parity schools (recognized by the Italian Ministry), subsequently applicants who certify Italian citizenship, and finally those families who identify with Italian culture and with the Educational Project but do not meet the preceding requirements. If families apply for these spots, they must submit medical certificates or specialist reports describing the stated Special Educational Needs (NEE) at the time of application, to plan the accompanying support required.
