Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The Doon School has a Learning Support department. Six teachers have been trained by DRISHTI to support boys with special educational needs. The process uses screeners and review of notebooks and answer scripts, followed by standardized tests to identify needs. An individualized Education Plan (IEP) is developed by DRISHTI and implemented by the trained teachers. An ICP (individualized counselling programme) provides counselling to help boys emotionally cope with performance.

Mental Wellbeing

The Doon School provides a confidential and free wellbeing service as part of its pastoral care. The Wellness Centre offers 24-hour care for all boys, with a 24-bed facility and health staff including a full-time resident Doctor, a nurse and nursing assistants, and a psychotherapist (Megha Sharma) on staff. Counsellors provide one-to-one confidential advice and group support. Student welfare is monitored by the Deputy Head (Pastoral), the School Doctor and the Counsellors.

Safeguarding

The Doon School has a Child Welfare Committee in accordance with the POCSO Act 2012. Child Welfare Officer is Ms. Stuti Kuthiala (Dean Pastoral). School Doctor is Dr. Hrithik Rauthan. School Counsellors are Dr. Shivangi Saxena and Ms. Nalini Malaviya.

Admissions

1. Registration: Register your son for the admission test by 10th July 2026 by filling the Registration Form. The Doon School admits boys into Class VII and Class VIII only, ensuring a close-knit community that thrives academically and beyond. The process can be completed online by filling the Registration Form or offline by downloading the form, paying the fee, and submitting required documents. Registration does not guarantee admission.

2. Payment of Registration Fee: The registration fee is non-refundable and follows a sliding scale; early registration saves. Overseas registrations are charged by age, and Indian resident registration has its own scale. Payments can be made online using the provided link; offline payment options are also described. Registration does not guarantee admission.

3. Submit Required Documents: You will be asked to upload your son's Birth Certificate and Registration Fee Payment Receipt. For offline registration, submit the Completed Registration Form, Birth Certificate, and Fee Payment Receipt via the Admissions Office. The Doon School reviews the complete application and informs you of further instructions by email.

4. Admission Test: The admission test will be held on 9 August 2026 at various centres across India and abroad. The exam is conducted at multiple centres, including Dehradun and other cities, and details are shared prior to the exam. Shortlisted candidates proceed to the interview stage.

5. Personal Interview: Shortlisted candidates are invited for a personal interview, which may be conducted at the school or at regional centres. Interviews evaluate fit alongside academic and extracurricular indicators. The school reviews the complete application and communicates next steps by email.

Scholarships

The Doon School offers scholarships based on merit and financial need. The Doon School Scholarship Examination (DSSE) provides merit-based scholarships with partial or full financial aid, determined by the Scholarship Committee based on documents submitted by parents. Eligible candidates are boys aged 11–12 years on 30 September of the exam year for Class VII and 12–13 years for Class VIII. Date of examination: Sunday, 19th April 2026; the exam is online with MCQ format in English, Mathematics, and Science, with 45 minutes per subject. Dormitories are housed in large and airy buildings divided among the five Houses to develop belonging and team spirit. Junior and Senior girls have separate hostels. Each House is an autonomous unit under the care of a House Mistress and a Matron.

Food Options

Meals are supervised by the Mess staff and provide a balanced diet with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Pork and Beef are not served. Cuisines from India and other parts of the world are regularly featured. Fresh fruit, vegetables and milk are provided daily. Extra or special diet is provided on the doctor's recommendation. Teachers and students eat together at the table, and the Mess Committee includes both staff and students.

House System

Five Houses named after birds found on campus: Bulbul, Flycatcher, Hoopoe, Oriole and Woodpecker. House Captains and Student Officials are chosen for leadership. The Houses compete on the sports field and in activities such as art, dance, music, debating, quizzing and dramatics. The dormitories are divided among the five Houses, with Junior and Senior girls in separate hostels.

Exam Results

Board Examinations 2021 show ICSE (Class X) with an overall class average of 94.95%, and the highest aggregate of 99.75% achieved by Palak Agrawal in ISC XII. ISC XII results also reflect strong performance with subject-level averages in the mid-to-high 90s, and top marks near 100%.

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Admissions

The school has classes from VI to XII and offers admissions in Classes VI, VII and XI only, subject to the availability of seats. The new academic session begins in March end/April each year. Age at start of the session is: Class VI 10½–12 years; Class VII 11½–13 years; Class VIII 12½–14 years; Class IX 13½–15 years; Class X 14½–16 years; Class XI 15½–17 years; Class XII 16½–18 years. The lower age limit for admission to Class VI is 10½ on 1 April of the joining year; correlation of age and class is an essential requirement. Procedure for registration: online application via the Admissions tab, payment, and receipt of an application number by email; return to the Registration Process and enter the application number; complete the online registration form with accurate information and upload scans of documents (birth certificate, Aadhar card and passport); pay the non‑refundable registration fee; you will receive a confirmatory email. The school will contact you by email in the year the ward is to appear for the Aptitude/Proficiency Assessment; registration does not guarantee admission. Aptitude/Proficiency Assessment comprises Round 1 for VI & VII in August/September at centres in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Dehradun; Round 2 is an in‑person interaction in Dehradun; offers depend on the results of the interaction and the number of vacancies. Some preference is given to: daughters of government officials and serving armed forces personnel; girls whose mothers studied at Welham or who have completed Class XII there; siblings who have studied or are currently studying at the school (no preference for Class XI candidates). Scholarships

The school offers several Scholarships each year to deserving students studying at Welham Girls' School.
