Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Mindfulness program has been in place for the last 3 years in the Secondary school, with 5 minutes of mindfulness practice in the morning. A 3-minute mindfulness practice was introduced for Primary students from Year 3 upwards a year ago. Students engage in mindfulness activities such as mindful listening, mindful breathing, mindful seeing, mindful body scanning and mindful gratitude. MindUp curriculum is introduced from 2022 onwards during HomeRoom sessions. MindUp is an evidence-based social and emotional learning program grounded in neuroscience, with four pillars: Neuroscience, Positive Psychology, Mindful Awareness and Social-Emotional Learning. The practice of mindfulness in the morning and 5 minutes of religious observances after the interval helps students with more effective emotion regulation, better behaviour in school, greater empathy, better social skills and reduced test anxiety.

Mental Wellbeing

Mindfulness supports student mental wellbeing by improving attention and focus, enhancing emotion regulation, reducing stress and test anxiety, and promoting empathy and positive social interactions. The MindUp program provides evidence-based social and emotional learning, reinforcing wellbeing through neuroscience-based practices. Daily mindfulness practice and structured routines contribute to calmer classrooms and more resilient learners. The school integrates wellbeing strategies with religious observances to foster a supportive learning environment. These practices aim to help students manage emotions, develop coping skills, and engage more confidently in school life.

Safeguarding

Gateway College fosters safeguarding by building a calm, disciplined, respectful, caring and ethical environment for children. The school's ethos is guided by the Founder's values and a focus on safeguarding the wellbeing of every student. Every student engages in religious observances and mindfulness daily, which supports consistent routines and emotional regulation. The school emphasizes celebrating one's faith while respecting and empathizing with the beliefs of others. The religion curriculum has been restructured to include learning about other religions, promoting tolerance and global mindedness.
