Admissions

Admissions

1. Inquiry. Prospective families submit an initial inquiry form. The Admissions Office schedules a campus tour and an information session to advise on next steps. The session explains ASB's programs, admission requirements, and timeline. Inquiries help families prepare for the subsequent application steps. 2. Application. Prospective families complete and submit all required forms and schedule student testing if applicable. Admission requirements differ by grade level and the appropriate application form contains the details. Testing is required for some grades; MAP Growth Assessments in Reading, Mathematics and Language Usage are used for grades 2–12, and grades 9–12 include a target-grade-level writing prompt and a Student Interview. The Admissions Office reviews all materials and communicates a timeline for decisions. 3. Decision. The Admissions Office communicates a written decision within two weeks of completing all admission requirements, including student testing. 4. Enrollment. Families confirm their decision in writing and proceed with the registration fee and a down payment of 10% of the tuition. Enrollment steps may include finalizing start dates and providing any additional documents as requested. 5. Priority of Admissions. Priority is normally given to children with siblings already enrolled at ASB, but this applies up to the February deadline each year. After February, admission is open to all other applicants. Applicants meeting admission requirements are admitted in the following order: children of UM6P staff and faculty; children of the University Ecosystem; children of the wider community. 6. Age Requirements and Grade Placement. Children must meet age requirements by September 1. KG0 is for 2-year-olds; KG1 for 3-year-olds; KG2 for 4-year-olds; KG3 for 5-year-olds. Spots become available across grade levels as spaces open, and applications are considered throughout the school year. 8. Admissions Entrance Testing. Students applying to the regular program in Grades 2–12 take MAP Growth Assessments in Reading, Mathematics and Language Usage. Grades 9–12 also complete a target-grade-level writing prompt and a Student Interview with the HS Principal or the Admissions Director. To be admitted, students must show sufficient academic ability in Mathematics and English and demonstrate satisfactory performance across the curriculum. 9. Probationary Period. All newly admitted students are placed on automatic probation for their first year. The school uses this period to evaluate the student's ability to perform successfully in the program. If it turns out that the student is struggling and is unable to keep up with the program, the school reserves the right to counsel the student out of ASB at the end of their first year. 10. Preschool and Other Requirements. All preschool applicants must meet potty training and separation-from-parent requirements.
