Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Student wellbeing is at the heart of ISML's work. Personal, social and emotional development is crucial for active learning, and the pastoral dimension involves all students and staff to create a positive academic and social climate where learners feel safe, happy and competent. The school uses trauma-sensitive approaches and values social-emotional competence alongside academics. Initiatives include Student Council, school newspaper, garden projects, digital citizenship training, nurture practices, restorative approaches, relationship and sex education (RSE), after-school activities, community projects and diversity awareness. KiVA is embedded in a whole-school approach to prevent bullying, with trained practitioners overseeing implementation, and Positive Discipline supports the teaching of social-emotional skills across classrooms. The setting also provides a sensory room, psychomotricity and nurture groups to support wellbeing.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

ISML provides inclusive education for all learners and uses a graduated approach to support students with additional educational needs. The ESEB (multi-disciplinary Learning Support team) focuses on psychological, social and educational wellbeing, promoting whole-school health, inclusion and social equality. Identification and provision are coordinated through a whole-school process involving homeroom teachers, the learner, parents and appropriate outside professionals. The CIS (Commission d9inclusion scolaire) guides recommendations for additional support, and the school collaborates with external partners when needed. The Inclusion Policy and the Pastoral Care Policy direct practice.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

ISML offers an international English-language curriculum launched in 2011 to serve students with English as a first or second language. The school is fully accredited by Cambridge Assessment International Education and welcomes students from around the world. There is a multilingual approach with English as language of instruction in non-language subjects, and a coherent structure culminating in Cambridge qualifications (GCSEs and A-levels). Entry requirements include English assessment to ensure access to the English-language program.

Mental Wellbeing

The SePAS team provides targeted psycho-social support, addressing questions about school career, personal matters, psychological and pedagogical issues and social issues. The team includes a psychologist and two social workers and is available daily from early morning until late afternoon. Pastoral care emphasizes mental wellbeing, whole-school health and wellbeing, and trauma-sensitive practices, complemented by wellbeing-focused provisions such as nurture groups, sensory resources and KiVA anti-bullying components.

Safeguarding

ISML follows safeguarding and child-protection practices through its Inclusion Policy and Pastoral Care Policy, with CIS oversight for additional support decisions. The SePAS team provides safeguarding-focused support, and external partnerships are engaged when needed. The school maintains EAL staff support and fosters a safe, inclusive environment through its anti-bullying and wellbeing initiatives.
