Surabaya Intercultural School serves students aged 1 to 18, delivering an international curriculum across divisions. Identifies students of exceptional ability and provides support through the Student Services Team, including English Language Learning (ELL) support, accommodations, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), progress assessments, and counseling.
The Student Services Team provides a planned program responsive to students' academic, social, personal and developmental needs. The guidance counselor supports students' academic growth and personal development and assists high school students with university entrance preparation, document completion, and university visits. The SST monitors progress to stimulate, challenge and reinforce learning and to safeguard the privacy of students and their families through prudent record‑keeping and communication practices. The team collaborates with teachers to support social and emotional development across the school.
The Student Services Team comprises school administrators, counselors, learning specialists and English Language Learning (ELL) specialists. SIS provides support for students with mild learning difficulties, including classroom accommodations and interventions, and uses differentiated instruction. It creates various support plans including Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and assists parents with testing arrangements and progress assessments, as well as providing recommendations for external assessments. English Language Learning (ELL) support is provided as part of SST services.
English Language Learning (ELL) support is a priority. SIS uses a sheltered immersion model in which all instruction is in English and students are expected to meet grade-level standards. Teachers co‑plan and co‑teach with the ELL specialists, employing scaffolded strategies to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening, with ongoing assessment and lesson differentiation.
Counseling services are provided by a guidance counselor as part of the Student Services Team, offering a planned program responsive to students' academic, social, personal and developmental needs. The counselor assists students with university preparation, documentation, meetings and visits, and develops personalized plans to support well-being and success.
The school endorses the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and is dedicated to providing a safe environment. Staff must identify and report suspected child abuse or neglect, with training and policy-based procedures, and cases may be reported to appropriate authorities or consulates as needed. The policy is distributed annually to parents and students and the school maintains safeguarding as a priority in its operations.
1. Inquire. Read the Admissions Requirements and review the Fee Schedule. Browse the SIS site and contact the Admissions Office if you have questions. Admission depends on meeting entrance requirements and submission of all previous school records; incomplete records or undisclosed information may delay or deny enrollment. Age-based eligibility for Early Childhood and Elementary programs applies, and students without proficiency in academic English will not be admitted to Grades 9-12.
2. Express your interest. Complete and submit the Preliminary Interest Form. You will receive an automatically generated confirmation email. The Admissions Office will contact you within a few days to follow up on your enquiry, though response times may vary during school or public holidays.
3. Tour the school. Tours can be arranged through the Admissions Office and are recommended early in the application process to familiarize yourself with the campus and to meet teachers and student peers. The tour helps you become familiar with the environment and provides an opportunity to ask questions in person.
4. Provide application documents. Complete the Application for Admission form, the Student Background Information form, and the Health and Emergency Contact form. Submit these forms together with the documents outlined in the Checklist of Admissions Requirements. Submitting these documents ensures SIS has the information needed to assess the applicant.
5. Pay the fees. Pay the application fee to the school at the time of submission; the fee is non-transferable and non-refundable. If your application is successful, before the student enters SIS pay the annual tuition fees, the enrollment fee, and the building fund fee; payment is in Indonesia Rupiah (IDR) and made via bank transfer.
6. Post-acceptance assessments and placement. Upon acceptance to SIS, students will be asked to undertake a reading assessment and will be tested for English language proficiency; these assessments help determine placement and may influence final grade placement and learning assistance programs.
