Chapel School, founded in 1947 to serve American families in São Paulo, offers early childhood through high school with American, Brazilian, IB programs. The campus covers 40,000 m2 and reflects a tradition of diversity and development. The Early Childhood Education program (ages 3 to 5) emphasizes social-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth in a rich learning environment, with Responsive Classroom and Morning Meetings; The Gold Assessment; The Creative Curriculum; Everyday Mathematics; Being a Writer; Visual Arts; Music. The Elementary School (ages 6 to 11) provides literacy and content in English and Portuguese, covering literacy, math, science, social studies, music, arts, religion, and technology, with NGSS for science and technology integrated daily. Early Childhood Education (ages 3 to 5) emphasizes social-emotional, cognitive, and physical development in a rich learning environment. A typical day includes a warm welcome and routines that support development through exploration, with nutrition and physical education integrated. The Elementary School (ages 6 to 11) centers on the student, with literacy and content taught in both English and Portuguese, and a curriculum that includes literacy, math, science, social studies, music, arts, religion, and technology; the curriculum highlights include NGSS for science and Being a Writer and Everyday Mathematics. Chapel School emphasizes social-emotional development as a core component of its Human Development program. Chapel School's campus is designed to be extremely safe with a single entrance and exit. Access is controlled and all students are dropped off on campus. Security cameras and staff monitor the buildings 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There is a school nurse's office on site to address health and safety needs. The campus infrastructure includes secure facilities and ongoing safety monitoring.
1. The school uses admissions forms and procedures to understand the individual contexts of applicants. Acceptance is decided based on information provided on the forms in conjunction with academic records, previous school recommendations, and results on standardized tests. Admissions take place at any time of the year from the beginning of August through June. The first semester begins in early August and ends in mid-December. 2. The second and final semester begins at the end of January and goes through mid-June. 3. The school accepts students applying to the second semester of 11th grade or the beginning of 12th grade if eligible to participate in the full IB program offered by Chapel School, which has prerequisites.
